Transferring Activation

Mark

I have two computers in my home. #1 is running XP-Home (as
an upgrade from Win 98). #2 is running Windows ME.

I would like to install XP-Pro on #1 and transfer XP-home
to #2. Due to hard drive an other configuration changes, I
have already activated XP-Home a few times.

What is the process I am looking at? Trying to get a
handle on it in advance so it will (hopefully) go smoothly.

Mark;
It sounds like Windows XP Home is retail.
If that is the case, you will have no problem.
Simply remove Windows XP Home from #1 and install on #2.
Attempt internet activation.
If that fails, choose "Activate by phone", call displayed toll free
number, done in about 5 minutes.

Assuming that neither computer came with XP pre-installed, you must simple
remove XP from both machines, and then re-install the desired version on the
correct computer. When you try to activate over the internet, activation
may fail. Call Microsoft with the number provided to you and explain what
you have done. You will be given a new activation code.

If XP came pre-installed on either computer, you are not allowed to transfer
it to another machine.

remove XP from both machines

Sorry, misread your post - I thought you had XP installed on both machines,
and wanted to switch the OSes.

My advice still applies, though... remove XP from the computer on which it
is installed, and then install it on the computer you want it to be on. If
internet activation fails, call Microsoft with the number provided, and
explain the situation.

Sorry for the confusion.
