hi,
My brother just got the Blaster or welchia or both
worms. he has 36 critical updates. I guess one of these
is the one needed to stop the virus, but the computer
won't stay on long enough to download them. (we even
tried getting them one at a time.)

Is there anyway I can download the update to stop this
virus to a floppy (or CD) on my machine and then have it
install onto his machine.

Thanks alot!!!
Gary.

The security updates will not stop the virus,
they will prevent you from catching the virus.
To stop the virus you need to use a cleaner tool,
such as you can get from a number of the antivirus
vendors' websites like Symantec's.

After you have cleaned the system, make sure the
firewall is turned on and then visit Windows Update.

You can get the patches from the Catalog feature of
Windows Update using the Personalize Option, or
you can go to microsoft.com/technet/security and
follow the links in each of the security bulletins.
However, it is just a easy to clean the machine, get
decent antivirus installed, get it firewalled, and then
configured to use Windows Update automatically.

You should also get the MBSA (Microsoft Baseline
Security Analyzer) installed and used.

Or You can also start Task Manager right after the boot-up process is
finished
(ctrl+alt+del) and end the Blaster processes manually (msblast.exe,
mslaugh.exe, etc. ..).
This will prevent Your brothers computer to turn off prematurely and You
will be able to download the critical update needed (824146).

You can find additional informations regarding this particular virus and
also removal procedures here:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp

Best of luck

Tibby
