Transfering IE Favorites from Win Me Hard drive to XP on same box?

Hi all,

I just bought a new PC with XP home ed on it.

To make the process of copying files from my old PC (Win Me) easier, I installed the hard drive from that old PC into my new PC. Everything worked fine except for 1 problem.

I can't figure out how to copy/ transfer / Import my Favorites into IE.

Using Explorer I located the IE Favorites folder on my old hard drive and copied into the Favorites folder located as shown.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Favorites

And, of course, I can see that the old favorites folder is there. But, when I'm in IE and click on the Favorites menu, I can't see any of my Favorites.

I also tried using the IE import feature and navigated to the Favorites folder on the old hard drive but got an error message each time saying something like "invalid" file name.

If possible I don't want to uninstall my old hard drive in ordre to create an "Export" file and then re-install the old drive in the new PC to Import the Exported file. Any one have any ideas?

Thanks, Jim

Forget "Favorites" and install Bookmark Buddy (30 days free). It will allow
you to import your Favorites.

This runs circles around "Favorites".

You will never look back!!
