IE 7 Favorites have gone missing - one among several oddities

Does anyone have a clue why my Favorites file disappeared overnight?
When I logged in this morning, ie 7 recognized my preferred homepage
(my yahoo), but had lost the log-in information, forcing me to reset my
My Yahoo log-in. In addition, all of my Google search preferences (50
items, open in new window, etc.) had been lost.

Finally, and most depressing, all of my Favorites are gone. Note that
the Favorites folders and files for all the other users on my WinXP
system still can see their Favorites files, but I, as Administrator,
cannot. (Curiously, the Favorites star on the ie 7 page still displays
the history of my sites visited.)

Another curiosity is that one of my children's Favorites files was
visible in Documents & Settings/user name, but the other users had had
their Favorites folders coded as "hidden."

I have looked in everyone's trash files, and the Fav's folder isn't
hiding in any of those bins.

My two questions at this time are (a) any hope of resurrecting my old
Favorites and (b) what might have caused this hiccup?

Any clues or advice gratefully accepted.

IE7 questions should be asked in the Internet Explorer newsgroup. There are
quite a few posts there so peruse them for something on topic before posting
a new message.

Please forget about the Yahoo thing, this has nothing to do with
Favorites.
Now for your missing Favorites. Favorites is a folder within your profile
folder. It's named Favorites and contains all your single favorite files,
either organized in folders or not.
Where is your favorites folder missing? Don't you see any Favorites in the
Favorites-Center or where is it missing?
Look in your profile folder if a favorites folder is shown there. It's
usually at C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Favorites

Kai,

Doc&Settings was the first place I looked. The folder was hidden and
empty. Searching with Windows Explorer, I see that my other family
members do have their Favorites folders in place, with that cute little
star icon. But I have only a plain old folder icon, which is empty
except for a "Links" subfolder. That's where my favorites are missing
from. When I first went on a seacrh mission, 3 of my family's 4
Favorites folders were hidden. I unhid them, Since then, my Favorites
folder has decided to re-hide itself - though the rest of my family's
Favorites folders remain unhidden. I can unhide this folder, but it
remains empty.

Frustratingly,
Brian

Check with Tweakui if that is really the path that IE is using for your
Favorites. If yes, then your Favorites are gone. Together with the hiding
of those folders for your other users that points to some third-party
software, maybe malware or a tuning or security program doing that. It is
surely not be done by IE.
