I have a new and and old Dell. They do not share a
removable media type in common. Can files be transfered
from old to new via a "cable". If so, what kind of cable?
Do I plug it in somewhere or just rope 'em together like
calfs in a rodeo? How do the files know which ones go to
the new computer (e-sheepdogs?)?

Either a netwoek cxable, or a parallel or USB laplink cable.
Another option is to remove the HDD from the old PC and connect it
to the new PC (either inside it, or with a USB HDD box).
