I just got a new laptop that doens't have MS Outlook. I want to transfer my
..pst files from my old computer to my new one but it doesn't seem to work.

Does anyone have any suggestions? If Windows Mail won't accept any .pst
files - is there another Mail program that might (for free or affordable
price)?

Thanks.

On the old computer import the messages into Outlook Express. WinMail can
import from OE:

I have teh same issue. Why would MS create a new email manager and not have
backward compatibility with Outlook .pst files?

Windows Mail is not a replacement for Outlook not does it descend from
Outlook. It is descended from and replaces Outlook Express, which also
could not read PST files.

I don't understand your point.
If you install Outlook on Vista, it will read your Outlook .pst files just fine.
If you had Outlook on XP, why wouldn't you want it on Vista?

The free email program that comes with Vista was never meant to
replace Outlook.

Vista does not allow Outlook to be used as the default mail program, from
what I can find. For instance, "MAILTO" from a web browser will only allow
Windows Mail as it's default. Overall, Outlook doesn't work well on Vista.
I haven't been able to find fixes for the problems either. One of the
problems is that Outlook goes through the set-up process everytime I start
the program, and I need to complete it in order to use it. I also can not
send emails by clicking MAILTO links in a website. It is not very
compatable, and windows update is current.

Versions of Outlook older than the 2003 version have problems running
under Vista. The 2002 version has only a few problems; older versions
have more.

Outlook 2003 and 2007 work perfectly with Vista.
I have tried both successfully.
