Transfer from CDs

To back up my files, I save them on CDs. Some CDs now have hundreds of
files. My PC on which these files were kept in Folders in My Documents
cannot be started, so I am getting a replacement PC. Is there a way of
making transfers of ALL the files in one go from a CD into a folder in MY
Documents on the new PC? If there is not it will take to long to make the
transfer file by file.

Open windows explorer Select all files on the CD (click on the top one,
press and hold shift, click on the bottom one) right click on them, choose
copy, click my documents to open it and right click and choose paste.

Place the CD in the drive of your new computer.
In My Computer, open the CD drive.
Hit the Ctrl + A keys to select all the files.
Hit the Ctrl + C keys to copy all the files.
Open your My Documents folder.
Hit the Ctrl + V keys to paste the old files into your My
Documents folder.

If you'd like to recover the files that are currently on your
old PC, one option would be to take the hard drive out and put
it in your new PC as a slave drive. This may mean having to
change the jumpers on the back of both hard drives. Once you
have the old drive in the new computer you would need to take
ownership of the old files in order to gain access. Take a look
at these articles for more info.

Note: If you are running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, you
must start the computer in safe mode, and then log on with an
account that has Administrative rights to have access to the
Security tab. To start in Safe Mode, reboot your computer and
start tapping the F8 key as soon as you see anything displayed
on the screen. Keep hitting F8 until the Advanced Startup
Options menu appears. Use the up and down arrow keys on your
keyboard to select Safe Mode. Hit Enter.

Good luck

Many thanks for the very comprehensive reply from both of you. I am a self
learner and do not know enough to attempt it, so I do not think I will
install the hard disk from the old PC into the new one. I also thing that it
must carry all the faults that caused my PC to pack up, so that I cannot
even start it in Safe Mode.
Just one more question:- Could Microsoft Data Transfer software, which I
downloaded few days ago play any role in the transfers of files from a CD
(which I could put onto my standby PC) and the new PC?
