New PC with XP Pro - Folder Access Issues after file transfer

Bruce

I just bought a new computer (XP Pro) and transferred my data files from the
old PC (XP Home) to the new one using Acronis True Image Ver. 11. I am logged
in as the Administrator. Everything went well until I copied My Documents
from the old PC. The folders (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) in My Documents
on the new PC will not open. They give the following error message when I
double click on the folders. "C:\Docs and Settings\...\My Documents\Excel is
not accessible. Access is denied." The same applies to all other folders
copied using Acronis True Image Ver.11. If I create a new folder, there is no
problem accessing it. When I right click on the folders and bring up
properties, it shows the folder attribute as "Read Only". When I click the
read only button (to clear it) and then click apply it looks like it takes
the change. After clicking OK and then clicking on the folder again it shows
the error message above again and the file is once again Read Only. I cannot
even delete the folders that are locked. It gives the following error
message: "Cannot delete Excel. Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not
full or write protected." When I bring up the folder properties, there are
three tabs shown at the top of the window ... General, Sharing, Customize.
This happens with all the folders that were transferred over from My
Documents on the XP Home computer. Any new folders added afterwards can be
deleted, moved, files viewed, etc.

I do not want a bunch of folders in My Documents that cannot be accessed.
Does anyone have any ideas that might help? Thanks

Sounds like you need to take ownership of the files and folders in order
to be able to access them. See this link for step by step instructions
on how to do this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421.
