Cat5 is going to be quicker, but can anyone tell me how you do it if you
don't have a floppy drive on the new machine, and it didn't come with a WinXP
CD? The "I want to make a wizard disk" is grayed out, even though there's a
CD writer available!
Unfortunately the disk create function will not work with a CD writer
drive. If the machine does not have a 3.5 diskette drive, and most
new ones don't, then your options are:
1. Use the Windows XP Installation CD if you have one. You can boot
the Windows 98 machine with this CD and run the FASTW from the CD.
Note that an OEM "system recovery" CD is not likely to have this
option available, but retail versions of XP and the generic OEM
versions sold by smaller manufacturers/assemblers will.
2. Use a USB "memory stick" provided you have the drivers for the
Windows 98 machine for it. Windows XP will create a "wizard disk" on
one of these.
3. Use a USB 3.5 diskette drive on the new machine. I have one in my
shop that I load to customers for this and other similar purposes.
Good luck
