Transfer emails from old PC to new PC

I have posted several msgs and got myself all tied up in knots.
Almost certainly I have given wrong info to start with, which meant the
replies weren't what I needed?
Here is what I want to do....
Transfer all my old emails and contacts from my old PC to my new PC.
Old PC has Outlook 2003 and new PC has Windows Mail.

Anyone who replies, could they talk in simple terms to me - assume I know
nothing about computers - and spell it out for me in easy to follow steps?

Thank you

Hi Mike
Thanks for repsonse.
I connected to the web site by the link you provided. A suggestion is to
load free trial of MS Office 2007, which has Outlook 207 in the package.
I have checked and it seems that this is only avail in USA?
I am in UK
Any other ideas???

Install your Office/Outlook 2003 if you have it on a CD and it is not tied
to your old computer.. other than that, follow instructions on the website
for what you originally asked.. trial versions of Outlook 2007 are time
limited, and buying Office/Outlook 2007 is $$$..

Hi Mike, thanks for continued help.
First question......I don't have a disc for Outlook 2003 that I know of, can
it be transferred using Easy Transfer??
Second question, if this is not poss, you mention follow instructions on the
website, do you mean the link you gave me? If so, this is where the
suggestion of installing free trail (USA only) came from.

I am in danger of getting bogged down again with complications and loosing
the thread!!

Is there a definitive (and easy to follow) way of getting my emails across
that you or anyone knows of?

Please help me!!!

Agreed. The Outlook license is usually good for at least two installs
without having to call in for a new activation.

This is the part that counts..The most important is POINT 3.
1.. Outlook must be installed on the computer that the .pst file is to be
exported.
2.. Individual messages from Outlook (.msg) cannot be dragged and dropped
into WIndows Mail (or even Outlook Express on XP for that matter)
3.. In Outlook on Windows XP export the PST to Outlook Express then import
those into Windows Mail
4.. Outlook Contacts will need to be exported as a Comma Separated Values
text file for import into Windows Contacts
You have to use Outook Express as the go between.

Outlook 2003 requires that you have the original installation media, and
can't just be transferred.

Then how did Outlook get installed on your old computer?
It comes on the Microsoft Office CD.
