Tracking E-Mail

Using Outlook 2003, I found a wonderful feature called the "Tracking" tab.
Problem is that sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not. According to the
help, I'm suppose to look at the sent e-mail in the sent folder. I also
received the receipts from those that sent them. But some e-mails seem to
have the tracking folder and yet some don't.

I believe this feature only works with e-mail sent from Outlook to Outlook
(like 2000 to 2000 or 2003 to 2000, etc). It doesn't seem to work say for
e-mail sent to someone that has Outlook Express or some sort of other e-mail
client (web, etc).

Can anyone give me some insight on this? Does it matter to whom I send the
e-mail (in other words do they need to have OL 2000 or OL 2003). It's a
wonderful feature if it works.

Any help would be appreciated.

I think you've explained the limitations of Tracking yourself!

You could also try the Activities tab within your Contacts. Open a Contact
and click the Activities tab. All Items still in your Mailbox will be shown
here (wait a few seconds after you click it).

Thank you for the confirmation. I thought as much. It's a great idea to
have this. But so much of the world doesn't have OL so it's a "good idea
that sometimes doesn't work." Oh Well! I do use the Activites Tab quite a
lot. And for those read receipts I need to keep, I don't delete those. But
Hope is Eternal.

Diane Poremsky [MVP]

Tracking requires TNEF, which is only supported by outlook. Receipts
returned from other clients will not process, which is required to display
on the tracking tab.

You have to actually open the read receipt you've received for the tracking
tab to show up. I was having this same problem and it was driving me nuts
until I figured this out!

for the Tracking Tab to be created. I was having this same problem and it

I am trying to use the Activity Tab to search for organizing Outlook
activities with Contacts. I am looking for all e-mails and or other
activities assiciated with a contact. When I click on the Activity Tab it
show only e-mails and activities I instigated and not from the Contact in
question. I looked for Help. It directs me to the Go Menu. What's the Go
Menu??

I guess I don't have anyone using Outlook...I'm not getting any receipts...

This option is worse than useless. What use is a tracking option, if it only
works when the recipient has Outlook? Until I saw this post, I was innocently
assuming if I didn't get a response, that was because the email hadn't been
delivered or read. And I was completely mistified as to why sometimes I got a
tracking tab, and sometimes not.
