TRACKER ERASER....HELP ME!!!!!

Track eraser was used by our son. It no only deleted his tracks but it also
deleted 4 years of MS Word documents. Not just the documents but also the
folder they were stored in. I tried a file recover program but cannot find
that they have been erased or put in the recycle bin. They are just GONE. I
should have backed up but I didn't.

Someone please help.

Sounds like someone is looking for something to blame because of your
concern over the lost files. There is no reason the tracks eraser would
have deleted any word docs unless MAYBE if you saved all your docs in the
cookies folder, which I highly doubt.

If you used a file recovery program and can't find them they are either long
gone or moved. I would suggest a search of the C: drive for all docs, *.doc
and see what comes up. Maybe your folder got moved, not deleted. If you
cannot find them, then take this opportunity to learn how backups can save
you a lot of pain in the future.

Have you tried using the Search feature? We've had quite
a few users move folders w/o realizing what they have
done. Also, you might consider limiting your son's access
to files. Accidents happen. Kids are rarely malicious
but they're not always paying attention to what they are
doing.

Tracks eraser does NOT erase files, just the evidence that you have used
them! I agree with JohnF. Good luck recovering your files. If you have XP
Professional (2002 I believe), you could have installed a shadow copier to
bring back older versions of folders (and therefore their contents).
Otherwise, I hope you backup your system quite often. If these files are
important to you, write them to disk! Do not assume that your computer will
always be perfect in storing your important data. A virus or any other bug
(or son) could wipe things out and you'll have a heck of time finding them. A
computer shop might be able to find it for you, but I would recommend finding
out their pricing if they don't find it.
