My buddy was robbed at gun point of his laptop, cops have not been any help.
Could the laptop be found by it's XP product key if they try to do updates?
Thanks,
David

No.

Being a laptop - chances are the product key was attached to the laptop. If
this is so and your friend still has the CD - it's more or less a coaster
now as well.

Sorry to hear about your friend's losses - but better a laptop than their
life.

How To Ask Questions The Smart Way

The product key was on the laptop, but he wrote it down in case it ever
peeled off. When someone buys it from the thief all they have to do is
call Gareway and order the recovery CD.

Actually, i would sell this Idea to microsoft!!! Microsoft Anti-theft
department lol but yeah, the product key is in the registry. Microsoft could
take it a step further and store product keys cross-referenced to
geolocations but this may be an infringement of the privacy policy
