Track changes

I turn on track changes feature n Word 2003. When I make a change in the
text, it shows some mysterious changes on the numberings. Has anyone seen
this problem? I am using Word 2003 on Windows XP.

If I understand your problem correctly, the auto outline numbering styles
take on track changes such as red strikethrough in the below paragraph when
you just deleted a sentence in the previous paragraph? It is what I call a
bug and has always existed with autonumbering outline styles. Not all
documents do it just some.

You can manually reject tracking on the numbering - but I suggest you don't
worry about it too much - it is more trouble than it is worth - if the
document starts doing it, it will continue through the entire document.

Personally I think it also relates to how the document styles were set up
(but that's just my corporate document experience speaking).

To be specific, it really mess up the outline numbering format. Is there a
conflict with track changes and outline numbering format?

That's exactly what the problem is. It's really becoming a problem for
legal documents because people have to use track changes feature. If this
is a bug in the program, is there a fix for it? what do law firms do to
avoid the problem?

As I said it is a document problem from what I see (28 years) but once the
document starts doing it, it continues. You will not be able to stop it
(believe me). From working in law firms we just ignore it.

You can use DeltaView a professional mark-up program where you edit a fresh
document and compare back to another version.
