hi there, i have a compaq laptop running vista hp i have noticed that the
touchpad will cause the curser to jump accross the screen when i tap the pad
is this a laptop problem or a vista problem any help appreciated thanks

thanks bert , its a presario c542ea as far as i am aware all the drivers are
upto date but i will do as you suggest just to make sure

hi bert thanks for the assist,
did what you suggested and it worked touchpad is now much less
skittish. However this raises the issue of why i wasn't informed that there
was an update available for this known problem by compaq despite having auto
updates switched on (i dont mean microsoft updates)i have sent compaq an
email quering this as there might be other driver updates i have missed which
i may need

year thats were i got the touchpad updates from ,i have since checked all my
driver versions that are on that list and most ere newer than mine ,should i
install them and then rollback if i have problems/

Hi Marty,

Glad to see the touchpad is working correctly now.

I can't answer your question concerning updates from Compaq, but would be
interested in there reply. :) I have two Toshiba notebook and have not been
notified either. What I do is save driver locations in my favorites for fast
access and check them periodically.

hi bert '
you asked me to let you know what compaq's response to my emai lwas
re:auto updates from compaqs site ,well here it is

Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.

From the description, I understand that you are not getting any
automatic update notifications on your Presario notebook.

I greatly appreciate that you have forwarded your concerns and have
given me a chance to assist you.

This issue could be occurred if the firewall on the notebook is enabled
and could be resolved by disabling the firewall on the notebook. Please
follow the steps given below to disable the Windows Firewall :

1. Click Start and click Control Panel.
2. Click Security
3. Select the Firewall option
4. Select Off.
5. Click OK to finish.

This should resolve the issue. Alternatively, you can download the
updates manually from the link given below :

well i don't think i'm going to turn off my firewall i will just download
manually and check the site every few weeks hope this reply has provided some
light amusement

You are correct Marty. This is dangerous advise for an incompetent support
person. I can just imagine what the next step would be - format and
reinstall... :(((

I would just stick with what you have.
