Total Newbie--Need Some Help!

I've been fooling around with capturing because I want to transfer some VHS
home movies to DVD. I'm using an Adaptec AVC-1100 for the video capture,
and the VCR is plugged into my sound card. WMM 2 is the *only* software
that has managed to capture audio and video--no complaints there--but the
finished (saved) movie jumps from one clip to the next, cutting out huge
chunks inbetween. When I capture, the DV-AVI option is grayed out, so I've
been using "Best Quality..." then saving as DV-AVI. On the "Collection"
screen, each clip logically leads into the next, but on the "Storyboard"
screen the problem starts--the clips are only a few seconds long, then the
next clip starts minutes ahead, leaving out quite a bit. What am I doing
wrong here? It's got to be something stupid and simple that I'm missing.

I think I got it but I don't know HOW--all I know is it's going to take
another 113 minutes to save and it's at 39%.
