Total Disk to Disk copy

Hello,

I have just bought a 120GB disk drive that I would like to copy everything
from my current 20GB drive to. It seems that when Windows is running there
are files that keep me from doing this in a straight forward manner. Get a
can't copy this file message and stops copying. I have tried using command
prompt copies, diskcopies, etc. - no luck. Does anyone know the secret to
doing this. I have already partitioned and formatted the new drive NTFS.

Are you creating a backup of the 20 GB Drive? If so, I would look into some
drive imaging software.

Are you trying copy the 20 GB drive to the 120 drive then use the 120 as the
system drive? If so, you should use the software that came with the new
Drive to do this for you.

You can use the tools CD that comes with a new hard drive [or download the
equivalent from the manufacturer's web site].

You can boot up from a DOS startup floppy and use XCOPY:
XCOPY C:\*.* D:\ /c/h/e/k/r

where C is your 20Gb HDD and D is the 120Gb HDD.

Or else buy Ghost or another cloning application.

I am going to replace my 20GB drive with the 120GB drive so it needs to be
bootable. I picked up the drive at a garage sale for $10 without any S/w so
I will need to DL some from the manufacturer site. Your suggestions are on
target. Thanks again.

FWIW, the Seagate software seems to work with any brand harddrive, the
Maxtor and Western Digital may or may not.
