disk image to file

I have a disk on which the partition table is corrupted. It contains one
primary and some logical (NTFS) drives. Before editing anything I would
like to create an image of the disk so I could restore to the current state
if things go wrong.
I found two options but they won't do: 1) either creation of an image of a
PARTITION (not the whole disk) or 2) sector by sector copy of the complete
source disk to another disk. That limits the number of images to one only.
I am looking for a sector by sector copy of the complete source disk into a
n image FILE. Then I might have several DISK image files to restore to the
original disk. Maybe some unix/linux based work around like the dd command?
Any help will be appreciated.

There are lots of utilities that do disk imaging, but if the partition
tables are corrupted, they may not be able to work.

Some, like Acronis TrueImage, have free time-limited but fully-functional
demo versions that will show you immediately if they will work for you.

A better starting point might be to use data recovery software that's
designed to fix partition tables, rather than manually editing.

Googling "data recovery software" would be your first step. Many of those
have free demo versions that will tell you what they can do; if the results
look good, you pay for the key to get it to actually perform the recovery.

File Restore Professional from PC Recovery will enable you to create
as many drive images as you like. If you are not able to get your data
back from your physical drive then you can scan your hard drive
partitions, or the images, and recover all of your lost data. You can
download it here: www.file-restore.com
