Tooltips Behind Task Bar

C

Colin Higbie

This happens to me on every installation of Windows XP I have (about 4), but
I've seen them work on other people's computers. Maybe I'm setting something
wrong and causing the problem?

The tooltips for the icons in my systray almost always (sometimes they work)
appear behind the taskbar. I can only see the very top of the tooltip and
can't make out the text on them. I have my Taskbar as a single row tall and
locked. Unlocking the taskbar doesn't seem to help.

I have made some minor selections in Tweak UI, but don't know what, if
anything, I could have changed that would cause tooltips to appear behind
the taskbar.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks,
Colin

It's a well known bug related to how windows displays tooltips and using the Show Desktop feature. It was introduced with WinME and MS has so far refused to fix it.

Because they think it's a bit minor. But they will fix the cache soon (save as bmp only).

I believe Kelly has a fix for this. Check here:

I didn't find anything there that addressed the tooltip problem. Do you
think I missed it? If so, can you send a specific link?

Thanks,
Colin

Colin,

Click again on the link I supplied. Click on the "Tweaks" tab. Scroll down
to line 321. Click on the "Tool Tips Hidden Behind Task Bar" not the Undo.
You will download a registry edit. If you get a virus alert ignore it.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks, I found it.

On my laptop, it fixed the problem. On my desktop computer, it didn't appear
to have any effect.

It looks like it's changing the mask for which color is in front. Is it
possible that this is a function of the color scheme or something related?
Maybe the solution involves different codes for different desktops.

Any for me to calculate this?
