Toolbar Missing

Dave

I have seen many replies to the missing toolbars in Word
but I have a Windows 2000 Pro system that is missing
toolbar, address, back/forward.etc buttons..everything.
When you press F11 you get the same results. You see the
blue bar at the top that diplays the folder name..under
that just shows the directory content. This also happens
in My Computer and My Documents. It is fine in IE6,
Word, Excel and Explorer. Any ideas?

If the issue is being caused by registry corruption:
- Delete the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Toolbar
- Launch Windows Explorer and the above key will be recreated using
default settings.

There may be some third-party browser component that is loading up and
causing problems.
To disable these:
- Open Internet Explorer
- Clear the checkbox for "Enable third-party browser extensions
(requires restart) found in Tools > Internet Options > Advanced
If this works, then you can proceed to delete the one(s) causing the
problem:
- Run Regedit
- Entries for browser extensions will be found in the below key.
Export and delete the suspect ones.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Extensions

A third-party shell extension could be to blame for this behaviour.
For information on shell extensions, where they are stored in the registry,
and how to control their loading see the following KB article
Q216384: "INFO: Approved Shell Extensions Only Enforced If
EnforceShellExtensionSecurity Key Is Turned On"

I'll have them give it a try.
BUT...
They are not seeing an issue with IE or Explorer....only
with "My Computer, My Documents....

Thought I'd mention that incase this this is just a IE
fix.

It's all good. Actually, most of the core .dll files for IE and Windows
Explorer are the same, so a repair of IE will fix many issues in either app.
