I hope this is the correct group to help me. Any help would sure be
appreciated.

I am running Window XP Home.
I am running Internet Explorer Version 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633
Update Versions:; SP1; Q828750; Q330994; Q824145; Q832894; Q837009; Q831167

When I click on the Mail Icon on the standard button tool bar, and I select
"NEW MESSAGE" from the drop down list, I get the following error.

"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience."

When I click on more information, I get this.

Error signature

AppName:iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106 ModName: mipmapi.dll
ModVer: 7.0.0.0 Offset: 00001b4f

Thanks,

Ed

First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Malware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/cwshredder.zip
**Post your HijackThis log to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the Spyware forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**
Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.

If nothing there helps, please post back to this thread.

Yes I have run both ad-aware and S&D and I keep my machine free of the junk
so I would think that is not it. This error has been going on for many
weeks and the last time I ran the programs was just two days ago. Removing
the mal-ware has never fixed this problem.

Thank you,

Ed

Can you determine what program installed mipmapi.dll? It is not a standard
Windows file and does not appear to be a Microsoft file at all.

Dear Frank, Thank you for getting back to me. After you said that the
problem was in mipmapi.dll file, I googled it and came up with Microsoft
Knowledge Base Article - 821403

It fixed it.

Thanks,

Ed
