Toolbar - dummy

Using Excel 97 on Winnt 4.0

Am trying to restore software after problems with
defective hard drive.

Among problems I have encountered is a new toolbar when
tyring to customize Excel. Toolbar is named Dummy. It
cannot be deleted and it cannot be selected. Anyone ever
heard of this?

Also, if I try to add a new toolbar, Excel crashes. I can
modify an existing one - either built-in or previously
defined but cannot add a new one.

Excel stores toolbar customizations in a file called *.xlb. Use windows|Find to
search for it.

Close excel and try renaming it to *.xlbOLD.

then restart excel to see if that helped.

Sometimes this file gets bloated/corrupted and the best option is to delete it
and recreate it. (I like to keep a copy of my "good" one so that I can just
copy that fresh one (and toss the old one).)

You are a genius. I found an archived version of my *.xlb
and opened that. Dummy is gone and another problem I had
with using "Save As" has also been solved.

You are my "Hero of the Day"
Thanks many times over
