using xp pro, dell 4700 desktop, 4 months old, IE 6.0, sp2. after a recent
uninstall of norton internet security, i noticed a blank selection under
view-toolbars, in the IE browser option. it is for the adobe program. you
can uncheck, or check the blank toolbar option, & the adobe pdf tool bar
will toggle on/off accordingly.

is there a way i can put a name onto the blank toolbar selection?

thank you, len kiesling

Leonard,

It's possible to change the name for that toolbar. Before that, download
ToolbarCop from here:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/toolbarcop.htm

Run ToolbarCop. Generate add-on report (the Notepad icon at the top). The
report opens. Copy the lines starting with " Toolbar: " and post the
information here.

Example:
Toolbar: &Address - {01E04581-4EEE-11D0-BFE9-00AA005B4383} -
%SystemRoot%\system32\BROWSEUI.dll - Enabled - Current User
Toolbar: &Links - {0E5CBF21-D15F-11D0-8301-00AA005B4383} -
%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll - Enabled - Current User

I'm glad you decided to post. I have the same problem after uninstalling
Norton AntiVirus: a blank selection on View - Toolbars instead of the name
of my ad blocking software. As with you, I can toggle the 'blank' to turn
the toolbar on or off. I will be very interested in whatever resolution is
posted.

Thank you, Ramesh. I am not currently at the affected computer. I will post
my log later today.

FWIW I have asked Symantec technical support if they have received reports
of this issue, and will post their reply if they are aware of the issue.

Leonard,

Looks like the Adobe toolbar already has a name defined ("Adobe PDF"), but
the conflicting one in this case, seems to be the NIS/NAV toolbar
{0B53EAC3-8D69-4B9E-9B19-A37C9A5676A7} .

Also, the toolbars seems to be mismapped. For instance, when you click the
unnamed item (possibly NIS), Adobe PDF toolbar activates. To resolve the
problem, see if this helps:

Close all instances of IExplorer.exe. Open ToolbarCop, click Tools menu, and
click Reset Internet Explorer Toolbar layout

You're correct Modem Ani. From Leonard's log, the NIS toolbar CLSID
{0B53EAC3-8D69-4B9E-9B19-A37C9A5676A7} seems to be the culprit.

You're very welcome Len. Thanks for letting me know!!

BTW, you may simply delete this toolbar item as it's orphaned (missing DLL)
Toolbar: (Empty) - {0B53EAC3-8D69-4B9E-9B19-A37C9A5676A7} - (empty)

Hi Ramesh:

It is I, Modem Ani, once again and here are the "Toolbar" lines from my
execution of Toolbar Cop:

Toolbar: &Address - {01E04581-4EEE-11D0-BFE9-00AA005B4383} -
%SystemRoot%\System32\browseui.dll - Enabled - Current User

Toolbar: &Links - {0E5CBF21-D15F-11D0-8301-00AA005B4383} -
%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll - Enabled - Current User

Toolbar: (Empty) - {42CDD1BF-3FFB-4238-8AD1-7859DF00B1D6} - (empty) -
Enabled - Current User

Toolbar: Super Ad Blocker Toolbar - {B4B3001E-0F56-4E51-8250-BDE11547EC55} -
C:\Program Files\SuperAdBlocker.com\Super Ad Blocker\sabtb.dll - Enabled -
Current User

Toolbar: Super Ad Blocker Toolbar - {B4B3001E-0F56-4E51-8250-BDE11547EC55} -
C:\Program Files\SuperAdBlocker.com\Super Ad Blocker\sabtb.dll - Enabled -
All Users

I guess it's that third entry that's causing a blank space to appear in
View - Toolbars when I use Internet Explorer. I first saw the blank space
after I uninstalled Norton Antivirus 2005.

So how can I get rid of the blank space and replace it with the name of the
Super AdBlocker toolbar?

Thanks for all your help.

....and let me add that, by using the web lookup I determined that the CLSID
in the third line belongs to none other than...Norton Antivirus!

Modem,

This one can be deleted.

Toolbar: (Empty) - {42CDD1BF-3FFB-4238-8AD1-7859DF00B1D6} - (empty) -
Enabled - Current User

Then reset the layout using the Tools menu in ToolbarCop.
