Missing MSN and Adobe PDF I.E. Toolbars

Today (July 28, 2005), I lost the MSN and Adobe PDF toolbars for I.E. 6. I
tried to reinstall the MSN toolbar and it was up once then I closed my
browser and re-opened it and it was not there. For Adobe PDF toolbar I did
the Detect and Repair option in the Help menu of Adobe Acrobat 6.0
Professional and that did the trick but now it is missing. Is there a way I
could get them back? I would like a step-by-step process of getting the MSN
and Adobe PDF Toolbars back.

The utility you have been referred to will not fix a problem with third
party toolbars.

I suspect you have a corrupt registry key.
Deleting the following registry key may help as a last resort:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser

If you own an HP computer, use MSCONFIG (startup tab) to disable the HP
utility 'autokit.exe'. If you are using XP you may need to download a 'fix'
from HP, available at:

HP and Compaq Desktop PCs - Customized View Settings on the Internet
Explorer Toolbar Revert to Default Settings After Restarting the Computer

Hi Sandi,

IIRC, Doug's program does the same of what you suggested (clears the
WebBrowser\ITBarLayout value) which inturn resets the defaults for _all_ the
toolbars, not only the Address bar.

Sandi,

Is it the full folder called WebBrowser that I should delete or is it any of
the registry keys in the folder. The registry keys I have in my
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser are:
1) (Default) which is a REG_SZ
2) {01E04581-4EEE-11D0-BFE9-00AA005B4383} which is a REG_BINARY
3) {0E5CBF21-D15F-11D0-8301-00AA005B4383} same thing as above
4) {47833539-D0C5-4125-9FA8-0819E2EAAC93} same thing as above
5) {BDAD1DAD-C946-4A17-ADC1-64B5B4FF55D0} same thing as above
6) ITBarLayout which is a REG_BINARY

I tried that xp_toolbarfix thing first and that did not help and then I
tried that HP.com link for HP and Compaq Desktop PCs link and that did not
help either. I did go to MSCONFIG > Startup Tab and scrolled down and did
not see autokit.exe in there at all.

If you can, match the CLSID to the problem toolbars and only delete them.

Alternatively, I'd have a very close look at third party software that may
be running and changing/resetting your toolbar - especially anti-hijack
software.
