Took computer out of domain - cannot log into locally

Good Morning,

Okay, so I took one of my computers out of the domain and when i tried to
log back into it locally I couldn't. I knew I would no longer be able to log
into the domain but I did not get the option to log onto local computer. I
have booted in safe mode and tried every admin login i have. when the
computer boots it bring me to the "windows login" by clicking options,
usually one sees a drop down to login to a domin or the local computer. my
"options" gives me "log in using dial up". It seems although its back in a
workgroup i only have the option to try and login to a domain. Doesn't make
sense, what i want to do is login locally to the computer, i have the
necessary passwords but after i enter them it says cannot log into domain.
would anyone know what setting i would modify to allow local login?

Windows 2000 OS
Thank You,
Matt

Matt,

If you don't have a local account on the computer, and it's been dropped from
the domain, you're out of luck.

Never drop from a domain before setting up AND TESTING a local administrator
account.

You've locked yourself out of the car. If you removed the computer from the
domain, what you're seeing is the option to log into the local workstation.
If you were still a member of the domain, you would see (at least) two
options in the dropdown menu...

The only way you can log in now is by using the local admin account &
password - if nobody knows this info, you'll have to try to reset the local
admin credentials.

Note also that you've posted this in a Windows XP group, and yet you're
using Win2k. The links above should still help, but note for future
reference that Win2k has its own groups. Good luck.

Thanbk you both for your answers.

Chuck, i agree i should not have taken for granted the local accounts set-up
but as I understand it there will always be a admin account to log into.

Lanwench, The problem is i have reset the password. went through making a
bootable CD reset it to 123123 and it still does not work. i don't know if
it maks a difference but when i try to logon i get "cannot log onto the
domain" would it say that even if i was trying to log in locally or would it
then say something like.. "cannot log onto computer"?

thanks, Matt
