Too many updates

I have an old laptop running windows xp, 9 gig hard drive. Computer runs fine
but.... it has downloaded so many security updates that I have no space left.
Can I eliminate older updates or out dated updates not needed. When I try
thru My computer/add remove programs I get a notice that many of my programs
may not work correctly. How do I tell if an update is out dated or no longer
needed??? I have had to remove most of my programs anyway because not enought
space left. (Only 7% left) I can't even defrag. I have thru SP2. SP3
wouldn't update due to space. I read the other similar questions but didn't
understand the answers. Any help would be appreciated.

This is a group for DotNet developers (aka.....programmers) who author
software.
You'll need to find a group with the word "windows" in it.

Definitely the wrong group for this, however:
Individual updates generally aren't that big. You aren't going to get very
far uninstalling them in any case.

To free up some space, first thing I'd do on this system is disable windows
restore. I've seen this grow to gigs even on older machines. (right click on
my computer, properties, then start looking... I don't have an XP machine
here to walk you through the details).

Next, do a search for large files on your hard drive. Open up your C drive,
and run a search. You can specify the size of the files, or just search for
everything. Sort on size. This should help you determine what is eating up
the space on your hard drive.

Next, go "Start --> run --> cleanmgr " get rid of anything in there that you
think you can get rid of.

I'm sure you realize that your hardware is obsolete?
If you won't consider the obvious, a new computer, here's how to get
assistance (if there js a solution) with Windows XP.

As you appear to be using a web interface, try this to find an appropriate
group:

http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/

In the tree on the left, open English, then open Windows. In the Windows
subcategory, find
and open the subcategory for Windows XP, and find a group there for your
post.
