too many styles in 2007

How do I get rid of all these styles? And get back the basic style for say
Heading 1? How do I get word 2007 not to make it's own styles?

Word doesn't create styles. Perhaps you're displaying "formatting"?

If you're seeing dozens of styles in your style dropdown, then go to
the Styles & Formatting pane (Ctrl-Alt-Shift-S), click Options at the
lower right, and in the Show What? dropdown change it from "All
Styles" to "In Use" or "In This Document." (Also change the other one
from "Recommended" to "Alphabetical.")
