Too many fields define when running a report

I have created a report from a query. The report fields are the same as
those defined in the query. I am able to run the query but unable to run the
report as it gives me the error "too many fields defined." Can anyone help?
Are the field limits different from the reports to the quearies?

Is your report based on a crosstab query?

It sounds like the error you would get when a crosstab query results in a
very large number of columns. That could result in getting an error message:
"Too many crosstab headers".

Try running the query that the report is based on directly and see if you
get the same error. If it is due to a crosstab query generating too many
columns, you'll need to limit the columns in some way. Either by putting some
criteria on the underlying query, or by making use of the "Column Headings"
property of the query.

Hope that helps!

My report is not based on a cross tab query and I can succesfully run the
query directly. I deleted a bunch of columns in the report at one point does
the report refresh or does it keep those as part of the count?

Well, theoretically a report can have a maximum of 754 controls over the life
of the report. What's the exact text of the error message that you get?

Hmmmm.

I should have asked this before: What version of Access are you running, and
what version of Windows? You might be getting a different because you're on a
different version than what I have.

In any case, try this: select the report in the database window, copy it,
and paste it in again with a different name. If the problem is the number of
controls you've had over the life of the form, that'll reset the control
count and the newly create report will run.

HTH!!!
