"Too many cell formats"?

Have created a large workbook application and am now encountering the error
message "Too many cell formats". Where are the Excel limits for cell
formatting listed? Can they be changed? Any known workarounds.

i've never seen that error msg. what version of excel are you using and how
big is the workbook? (i.e. what are you formatting?)
