Hello, I hope somebody can help me!! My towers fan is turning on quite often
and it sounds like it is going to blow up with this whistling noise. It is
slowing down my performance. What seems to be the problem and how can I fix
it? PLEASE!!

perhaps its simply a matter of the fan failing, though whether your refering
to cpu fan or other fan is not clear, nor is the statement 'slowing down my
performance' clear.

Recently I saw a nearly new computer where the air inlets and the CPU
cooler were nearly clogged with something like very fine sawdust.
The CPU fan made a lot of noise and apparently the CPU temperature was
high enough due to lack of cooling to automaticly run it quite slower.
I would open the case, inspect everything and clean when needed.

fans are cheap and you are degrading your cpu because it is overheating.
some motherboards are designed to automatically shut down after a certain
temparture is reached. if your motherboard controls your fan(s) then you
probably have a software on your system that show you there speeds and the
temps.... (there is freeware avail on the net too)

but it may be easier to spend 30 bucks, plus another 5 for that black greese
that transfers heat from the chip to the fan unit.

check out your fan first and see if there is a cable interfering with the
fan blades. and it also helps to leave the tower open by removing the
panel......

It may be sufficient just to use a bit of canned air to blow dust out
of the fan and airways. If not, simply replace the fan.
