Hi, I would like a little of help with table of contents.

If I have styles: Heading 1 to Heading 4

I go to Insert > Table of Contents > Options and set the TOC level of
Heading 4 to "2" (same as Heading 2). This shows up in the preview correctly,
but when I press OK, the Heading 4 is not inserted into the TOC.

What do I need to do?
 
In your TOC, press Alt+F9. Copy the field code you see and post back here.

See what happens if you change 1-3 to 1-4. You would think that if you've
remapped Heading 4 to TOC 2 it would be included, but since you can't change
the actual outline level of the built-in heading styles, it may be that that
is what Word is looking at.

Hi, changing that didn't help. I did press Alt-F9 again to check, and tried
to update the TOC but no difference.
 
I just tried it on a much bigger TOC that gave me the option to "update
entire table". How is it possible to update the entire table on a smaller
TOC?
 
I've found that sometimes Word doesn't present the option to "Update entire
table" if it doesn't think there's anything to be updated, but in this case
there surely should be. I don't know how to force it to present that option.

The following macro:

Dialogs(wdDialogUpdateTOC).Show

forces the display of the Update Table of Contents dialog box. However, at
least in the version of Word I'm currently using, the dialog box doesn't seem
to actually update anything, if you click an option and then click OK.
Hopefully this is fixed in recent versions of Word.
