I have a large, complicated document with custom (numbered) headings, a Table of Contents and two "Tables of Figures", one for figures and one for tables in Word 2000. My problem is that I would like to have both Tables of Figures/Tables formatted identically, to look neater. I have formatted the TOF style with a left aligned tab at 2.5 cm, a hanging paragraph of 2.5 cm, and a right aligned tab with a dotted leader at 15.7 cm. This works for the the Table of Figures. However, when I update the Table of Tables, Word inserts an extra left aligned Tab at 2 cm, so that the hanging title text is no longer aligned with the first line. The tab is not in the Style, so I can't delete it - I have tried - and it does not appear in the Table of Figures. I have applied any changes of style format to the template but that does not seem to make a difference. If I 'reapply the style' to the TOT the rogue tab disappears, but returns when the TOT is updated. Part of the caption style for the figures/tables is "Figure 1", "Table 11" etc., numbered automatically. Having a caption label or not does not seem to make any difference, and Word does not seem to give me an option to use separate styles for the TOF and the TOT, so I am at a loss as to what to do next. Help!
