TOC links not working in converted PDF

I converted my .docx document to a PDF in Word 2007 using the "save as"
option. While it created its own bookmarks, it didn't maintain the word
bookmarks from the TOC to the individual pages. I went through the boards and
realized this seems to be a problem using the "Save as" option. Is there any
kind of workaround for this to make the links work?

Did you check the option to use Word Bookmarks in the PDF options dialog?
