A lot of the problems you are running in to with SP1 can be eliminated
simply by doing a clean install:
Vista
mobo chipset and LAN drivers
SP1
back up with something like Acronis TI 11 so you can always restart from
here if you choose.
go for it.


Just a thought.

You'll spend a lot of time trying to modify an already modified system and
make it work. Life's too short for that! You can insist on should's, but
this is a real world.

Vista with SP1 is really simple, and it works!

My Windows Ultimate system was upgraded from Windows XP Professional
in November 2006. It has been running trouble free since then, and has
continued to be trouble-free since I installed SP1 last week.

You are quite correct, Ken. It is not required, but I know I like
formatting and clean installing, from time to time, especially when it
comes Service Pack time.

It's a shame that MS killed of slipstreaming SPs, and creating install
disks with the SP integrated.

That would be my preferred, not required, method of deploying Service
Packs.

Yes, I think you've already told us that you have the Jesus Christ of
Vista installs.

Vista, like every OS made by humans, or that will ever be made by humans,
is imperfect in its very nature, because it is made by us imperfect human
beings. You lose all credibility when you so openly lie.

"No problems" "Trouble-free" No one in their right mind is gonna
believe that.

It's like a Mac advocate saying that OSX is totally secure from malware.
No intelligent non-fanboy human being believes that, any more than they
would believe that you have a "trouble-free" install of Vista, as that
just cannot possibly exist.

Vista isn't the effin' Second Coming. Vista is flawed, just like every
other thing made by humans.

If they don't give you the restore CD they have an image on a partition
on the hard drive which you can use to reinstall clean or create a disc
from the image in order to reinstall clean.
