To ACPI or not to ACPI

I've been having some problems with IRQ conflicts. No amount of tweaking the
BIOS, etc has made any difference. However when I changed Windows from
ACPI to standard PC all IRQ's eemed to sort themselves out.

The only things I noticed are different:

Systems seems to be slightly faster
I have to manually power down the PC.

So the question is: Are there any risks or disadvantages in running Windows
in this configuration? (i.e. ACPI less).

Thanks

Unless there are a number of legacy peripheral cards that
need to be installed on the motherboard, then ACPI is the
way to go. Several reasons, the more important is allowing
the sharing of IRQ's. Otherwise, the number of IRQ's for
peripherals is limited.

As for shutting down of PC, the options are determined by
what can be enabled in the bios. There is nothing wrong with
manually shutting down the PC via a master power switch from
the mains if bios configuration does not allow otherwise.
