Tips for security on the net

Hi all,

I have been using the internet for years now and i still come across the
same old problem. viruses, trojans and unwanted spywares and simillar
programs. Even with the latest windows XP update, we can never be 100% safe
from those malicious scripts etc..

First of all, i think that it is best to start with a good anti virus which
has also a 'spy detector and remover'. The one i have been using for years
is the McAfee anti virus. This software has all the required tools to locate
and eliminate unwanted spams and spywares. it also updates itself regularly.
Personally, i find McAfee a very good antivirus.

Secondly, there are security options in browsers which need to be activated.
there are options which block unnecessary 'pop ups' etc..

Thirdly, we should understand that sharing music and video files through
P-2-P softwares is very risky. very often, users have access to your
computer and can send malicious files disguised as music files. Therefore,
care should be taken if you are using such softwares.

Thank you...

Best regards,
yosh...

Hi Yosh;
Agree with most of what you wrote to us, although the last I looked McAfee
only detected and removed the 200 most common spyware installs as I
remember. That would make me consider using a secondary/backup
AntiSpyware... You might consider trying Windows Defender, as long as it
gets along well with McAfee for you, if it doesn't then you could consider
it or another AntiSpyware product as an on-demand only scanner without the
RealTimeProtection. You should not use multiple Anti-Virus/Firewall
products however. Good luck in the malware wars.

Stu,

Who's knocking? Except perhaps in the sense of "Knock, Knock, who's there?"
I think he/she is a first time poster. I have not seen/heard of them
before. Profile gives no info. Inquiring minds want to know.

?:)

Hi Tim,

I'm not sure what you mean by the OP's not having a "profile." I don't think
I have one either. Or if I do, I sure don't know where to view it.
