Tip for "Autoplay" not working on media slots

After many hours of research, I found one post online with the solution
to my problem: Autoplay wouldn't work on media slots, but worked on the
DVD and CD drives. The PC is a Pavilion with XP and SP2 pre-installed.
(My first suspicion was SP2, but that turned out not to be the
culprit!). I tried the usual fixes such as Tweak UI and even went to
the registry to delete the CLSID folder listed under "Cancelautoplay" in
the registry. That only worked until the pc is rebooted. Then the
CLSID folder would re-appear and autoplay would fail to operate.

The solution was quite simple (once you know what to do!). Remove
"Realsched" from starting. (Run MSCONFIG and remove the checkmark next
to that item in Startup). That file comes with Realplayer. Once I
deactivated that file from running at boot-up, autoplay works correctly
on the media slots. Please note that I have another XP pc with
Realplayer installed, and have no issues with Autoplay. One difference
is that it doesn't have SP2. I have no idea if SP2 is the reason for
Realsched to mess up autoplay...

Hope this might save someone a lot of time and aggravation. BTW the
post that I found with this tip had mis-spelled the name of the file.
They had it listed as "Realshed". :)

Over time and due to many conflicts with other applications, even games,
and cause behavioral changes to the operating system, I've found
RealPlayer to be too corrosive and have never reinstalled it.
