DVDRW won't Autoplay.

Hi all. I have an internal DVDRW that works fine - read/write, autoplay etc.

I picked up a new LG GSA-H55N USB External DVDRW today. It works fine, BUT
it will not autoplay DVDs. Other media (mixed, slideshows etc) autoplay. I
just can't get this to do so with DVDs.

I've checked every link on the web, checked MS website and nothing seems to
work.

When I insert a DVD (commercial or home spun), autoplay only displays the
directory of the DVD. I can play in PowerDVD, Nero Showtime and WMP if I
open the vid files manually.

LG's website offers very little help and their tech support people pretty
much gave me all the pointers that I found on the inter-web.

Does anyone have any clue?

Thanks.

Now things are really wonky!

I had set CD Audio to play in WinAMp, this was done many moons ago. Now when
I insert an audio CD (or DVD) it starts with PowerDVD!!!

I've used MS's Autofix, Autoplay repair and tried pretty much every web link
idea. I hope someone has an idea of what/how to fix this.

Thanks.

After much searching and investigating, I started to get errors with Nero
8.1.1.0 Ultra. I contacted Nero and they suggested a re-install. I removed
Nero & used the cleanup tool.

I then rebooted, inserted my Nero 8 product and voila autoplay worked. SO, I
tested autoplay with 10 different DVDs (after initially telling XP to open
with PowerDVD or whatever app was required or wanted), all worked well.

I then went to data dvds and cds, reconfiged and all is well.

I got hold of Nero again and they said that with "Certain" applications they
have received several complaints about this type of issue. However, they
would not tell me the exact application(s).

I have an upgrade to Nero that is supposed to fix it. Until I get brave
again, I'll stick to Nero 7.

I hope this helps others.

Cheers
