tiny url

A poster on another group says....

"Are you aware that by doing so you encourage unsuspecting clickers (of the
link) to provide their email address to the folks who freely provide the
conversion to tinyurl?

No thanks. NOT ME"

Are the tiny url people selling email addresses? I have had no trouble
myself as far as spam and/or ad-aware discoveries. Anyone have
problems????? It isn't clear who he means as "freely providing the
conversion".....one who passes the link or the creators of tiny url...I am
guessing he means the programmers/webmasters.

In the past I have used - Make A Shorter Link
http://makeashorterlink.com/index.php and Tiny URL http://tinyurl.com/ . I
too haven't had any SPAM or mal-ware problems as a result.

I am aware that some people are hesitant to click on a shortened link,
because they are concerned that they will be redirected to an advertising or
pornography site. For this reason I stopped using these services.

So use one that shows the user what link he's going to, before the
transfer, so that he can bail if it doesn't like the sound of it.

George I relayed to the ng poster that originally complained to me of
tinyurl that I would look into it. Here is his additional reply.

"If the tiny is cut and pasted from an email into a browser than NO email is
provided.
They only pick up the email on a click from within an email to the URL. It's
the same with ALL email links.

Hope this helps and saves you some spam mail being sent.'

Since OExpress is the newsgroup handler (mine anywayz) does his fears have
merit?

:-?
