Timed Standby no longer works after IIS install

I have WinXP Pro. I like the computer to go into standby or hibernate when
not being used, after the time in Power Options has gone by. I recently
installed the IIS web server - added the windows components in the
add/remove software in control panel. I need this to work with Frontpage.

Timed standby no longer works reliably. I does work perhaps 10 % of the
time.

I ran the IIS Lockdown tools, and MBSA and made the recommended security
changes. I have tried disabling IIS admin, and the web server. that does not
help. Or I let it run and that does not help. Or i put it in manual and that
does not help.

Maybe IIS disables standby because it thinks it needs to be there to serve
up webpages, but standby does not work even with IIS disabled in Services.

I can put the computer in standby or hibernate with Start/Turn Off
Computer/Standby.

In Event viewer/system, I see what are tries to start IIS
The server {A9E69610-B80D-11D0-B9B9-00A0C922E750} did not register with DCOM
within the required timeout.

I have turned off most all automatic updates in windows and other software,
trying to stop programs from periodically going out looking for updates.

I have read KB 899975 but that does not really help other than to say
something is keeping your computer awake.

It will go into standby if you reboot and do not logon. I presume that this
is because it has not loaded many programs at this point.

I would appreciate advice on how to fix this or how to log what is keeping
my computer awake.

I have continued to work on this. I removed IIS and it still would not go
into timed standby. Read the MS KB about how to clean boot a system to ID
problem drivers, so I executed part of that procedure by disabling everything
on the startup tab in MSCONFIG. Thiings like ActiveSync, Norton ccApp,
onboard sound controls, packet writing (InCd), ATI video card app, MS
AntiSpyware.

After disabling all of these, timed standby works. Some of these sneaky
programs check their box again automatically, if you start them manually, so
I lam etting a few run to see if problems re-occur. Will turn onothers one by
one to see what happens.
