Time Zone tool

I used the time zone adjustment tool to change the calendar appointments when
the time zone was adjusted. However, the tool only changed the times for
curerently scheduled appointments, and left everything else alone.

How do I update the remaining calendar entries?

The time zone adjustment tool changed the time for appointments that were
either in the future, or had reminders still active. The tool ignored all
past appointments.

I use my calendar to keep track of past items as well as future entries, so
the split change did not do me any good.

The old appointment times are correct as is - they represent the time of the
appointment was held, which was in the old time zone. In a situation like
this, I would add a category to all the old ones so you know those old ones
were not updated.

The problem is that they are not correct. I have no use for appoints listed
in some obscure time. It is the time of day where I happen to be. In
example, when I am on the east coast, and have an appointment at 10:00am, I
simply do not care what relation to GMT that is. I am in the EST time zone,
and my appointment is at 10:00am local time. When I travel to Pacific time,
my appointments will also be in that local time.

I want my appointments recorded in the time I expect to see on a clock when
I am in that time zone. Keeping appointments in an absolute time zone is
relatively useless for a frequent traveller. Look at airline reservations,
they are always listed in the time zone where the airport is, since that is
practical and easily understandable.

My question is, why does the tool not do what it claims to do?

I want my appointments recorded in the time I expect to see on a clock when
I am in that time zone.

Expect it all you want. It won't change Outlook's (correct, in my opinion)
behavior. Outlook relies on GMT for all of its timekeeping. If you don't
like it, then I suppose you're free to find another calendaring program that
works as you wish or to write one for yourself. The truth is that time on the
Earth is inextricably linked with time zone. You can ignore it if you wish,
but that's not how reality works. The only reason we can ignore it in most of
our day-to-day adventures is because we don't change zones that frequently.
Look at airline reservations, they are always listed in the time zone where
the airport is, since that is
practical and easily understandable.

This is one of the most baffling things about flying, as far as I'm concerned.
I wish times were listed in my home time zone values so I could plan duration
better without having to constantly wonder what time zone houses the airport
and to the mental calculations to adjust the time back to my reference time.

But if I understood the previous comments correctly, the current
appointments were updated by the tool, only past appointments were not.
Those are in the past - and they are on the time they happened in the old
one. If you need to cross reference times, use the dual time zone feature.

Use the dual zone to make appointments for the correct time in other time
zones too - unless you have 2007, then you can select the correct zone when
you create the appointment.

Using GMT and offsets is the correct way in a global economy - a meeting
request made in ET and set to someone in PT for 10 AM is no good if its
stuck on 10AM PT. A frequent traveler will use dual zones to make sure
meetings in the other zone are correct - or he will not change the time zone
on the laptop. (There are windows utilities that show the time in any zone
so the computer shows the correct local time).
