Time Sync

Here's the problem I'm having. I found out today that all of our computer
clocks were incorrect. We were opening and closing branches five minutes
later and sooner than the actual time. I went to our main DC that folds all
of the roles and ran Net Time setsntp:ntp2.usno.navy.mil to sync to the naval
observatory clock. I then restarted the windows time service on our main w2k
domain controller and all windows 2000 machiners were in sync.

However,
windows XP clients and Windows 2003 member servers were not in sync. How do
I get these to sync up with my main dc? I thought all computers in the
domain automatically synced with whatever server held the PDC role? Am I
missing something here?

Hello George,

On XP and 2003 maybe the firewall is enabled and blocks NTP port 123?

Best regards

just to clarify a bit, by default all PCs and member server in a domain will
synchronise time with an authenticating domain controller, thier 'local' DC
under normal circumstances.
These DCs will synchronise with the domain PDCE. If it's not a root domain,
the domain PDCE will synchronise with the upstream domain (i.e. root if 2nd
level) PDCE.

Detail on how to set XP clients sync from a specific server is in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314054/.
