Time Sync Software for Mobile Phones

For some reason, when I down load the software that supposedly allows Active
Sync to speak to my Motorola Q phone, it doesn't load successfully, instead
offering me:

"Either there is no defualt mail client or the current mail clent cannot
fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outllok and set it as
the default mail client."

I have open IE, Options, Mail, Set Outlook as Default, but this software
still won't run, giving me the same message.

outlook version? does the software's support site give any clues as to what
might be wrong?
