An icon appears on my desktop with the TILDE symbol below it. What created
it, what does it mean, can it be deleted?.

it is a bug from outlook , i believe it is a save file for a sent email that doesn't get put in the right spot. i heard if you delete it then you don't have a backup of that email so i made a folder to throw them into. no big deal really. i usually delete them instead of going through the trouble of putting it in a folder unless it's an important email.

It's an OE bug. OE makes a backup of your address file, and sometimes
forgets to delete it. You can delete it, but eventually OE will
recreate it.

Nice write-up. As usual, doesn't mention the privacy downside of
leaving multiple copies of your email address book lying around with a
known name in guessable locations.

It's nearly a year now, and MS still hasn't fixed this. Doesn't bode
well for the QA needed when being asked to swallow patch of the day.

Running Windows-based av to kill active malware is like striking
a match to see if what you are standing in is water or petrol.
