There are good free and free-standing speelchucklers which will work
with your clipboard and whatever Windows application you want them
to deal with. I haven't needed a free-standing one in years, but I
see they're out there and many come with good recommendations.
Pricelessware recommends All-Purpose Spell Checker (APSC)
No need to do without unless you're just not particularly interested
to begin with.

I have used Outlook Express. Two different versions. With all due
respect to its fan base, I have to agree with P.J. Connolly who
noted that "discussing solutions in the context of Microsoft's
inherently insecure email software is like deciding what kind of
paint you're going to put on the barn once the fire's out."

I never use a spell checker, so I had not realized until just
now that there isn't one for Tbird. There is one for Mozilla,
and I had assumed that it had been tweaked for Tbird.

That's all fine to just say, but there are very simple ways
to prevent viruses with a few changes in the options,
regular Windows Updates, and some common sense.

Weekly updates to Outlook, weekly updates to your virus
checker, and hope you don't miss an update to either one.

Or, just use any other client out of the box.

OE isn't the only problem. MyDoom proved that.

Did that study also remove the massively braindead users
from the equation?

Braindead users tend to use Outlook Express. Remove it, and
it won't matter nearly so much if the user is braindead or
not.

Braindead users tend to use Outlook Express.

You can't blame OE for social engineering. Blame it for being
generally shitty and non-RFC compliant instead.
Remove it, and
it won't matter nearly so much if the user is braindead or not.

Yeah, idiots without access to email would be a step forward...

In Thunderbird? I think that you have to save the nude surprise and
run it.

That's somewhat of a hurdle, I'll give you that. A zipped MyDoom
is just as dangerous in the hands of a dumb TB-user as a dumb
OE-user though.
Where ya been Rhexis?

I've been to Southern California for about 8 years. ;)

(Actually I just grew tired of the trolling and unsubcribed for a while.)

Hi Andrew!

Anyone use Thunderbird Email on a day to day basis? can it replace
Outlook? (not that piece of junk outlook express).

I'm not sure if Thunderbird is a groupware client (as Outlook is). AFAIK
it is only an emailer (as Outlook Express).
If you really need groupware functionality, your stuck to Lotus (which
has the worst user interface ever!) and Outlook. I once had a freeware
version of Lotus, you don't want to try that.

I have so many problems with Outlook Express that our ministry is
looking for a good solid Email client with spell scheck. Could
Thunderbird do that?

Probably. But why not use Mozilla and Mozilla Mail?

Greetings,

Joachim
I will try Mozilla and Mozilla mail. Thanks for the input.
