Thumbs.db...what are they?

Æ

OS: Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
Version: 5.00.2195 Service Pack 4
---------------------------------------
I have unticked the Hide protected
operating system files.

On a search for Thumbs.db
in all local hard drives
I found many in my partitions
but none in C:

What are these?
Why are they created?
Are they safe to delete?

 Any help or advice appreciated

If you view graphics in a "thumbnail view", this file is created. It helps load
the graphics when opened a second time. Its like a cache.

Thumbnails database for displaying Web view folders, whether you delete
them is up to you. They aren't necessary for Classic View. hope this
sorts it out for you.
