Thumbnail View refresh

If I download images from my camera into a folder, then edit them with a
paint package, the thumbnails in explorer never update to show the
edited version unless I right click on an image and select refresh
thumbnail manually. Is this normal behaviour?

Yes. The cached thumbnail file Thumbs.db is there to avoid the overhead
of generating a new thumbnail. If this is inconvenient; you can check
'do not cache thumbnails' in Folder Options - view. Opening a folder
will then take longer because of the need to regenerate *all* the
thumbnails
