Thumb drives, camera card will not work with Vista

I have two thumb drives, a Sandisk Cruiser 1GB, a Verbatim 1GB also a 1GB
Sandisk 1 GB MS Pro camera card. All of these cards work perfectly in two
computers running XP home. None of these devices work with Vista Home
Premium. The hardware is a Gateway ML6721 notebook. The drivers for these
devices install ok. When I insert these memory devices and try to invoke
Windows Explorer, Explorer hangs. The little circle spins forever. When I
try to kill Windows Explorer with Task manager all of the icons disappear
from the desktop and the entire OS hangs until I phisically remove the hung
device. Any advice?

Try this - Shut down PC. Plug in device. Turn on PC.
