thumb drive problems

I cannot get my thumb drive to show up in my computer. I can go to disk
management and see it there but it will not show up in My comp. I can right
click on it in DM and open or explore but for some reason it won't show up
in my computer. I can boot the system with the drive in it and go to my
computer and it's there. Once you take the drive out it won't come back. It
will work on my home computer. The problem seems to be on a lot of the HP
boxes we use at work. I can take the same drive to a Dell and it works. This
is an ongoing problem at work. Please help if you all can.
Things I've tried
1. Remapped the drives since I have network drives or H, V, W, Y
2. Gone intot the registry and deleted the MountedDevices and deleted the
dosdevices etc....
and deleted the upper filters as well.
3. Deleted the usb devices in device manager and rebooted the system and let
it re-install
4. formatted the thumb drive
5. Disabled symantec because I read where there might cause a problem and
something about adobe as well.
6. Haven't tried 6 yet. Step 6 is throw the darn thing out the window.

Talk to the IT people at your work, often businesses will
block use of such drive to protect data.

| Here are some known reasons for external drives not
| shown in the Windwos Explorer:

|
| If you have installed or tried to install the daemon tools
V4
| then probably they are the reason.
