"This page cannot be displayed"

IE6 SP1 running on XPH started giving the error
message "This paage cannot be displayed". It doesn't
matter what site I try to view. I have a good connection
to cable as I can IM and Outlook Express sends and
receives perfectly. I have run ping test and confimed
all settings are correct with my cable supplier. The
cable connection is normally through a network and all
other computers browse with no problem. For tech support
from my cable company and Dell, I connected this machine
directly into the modem to eliminate any potential
network problems. I also uninstalled and downloaded a
clean copy of IE6 from Microsoft's support site and
reinstalled it. Dell's final conclusion was to fdisk and
reload everything from scratch. I would like to avoid
this final step if possible.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Possibly your hosts file is corrupt, try renaming it to
hosts.old (or whatever). Windows will then create a new
hosts file.

I install Netscape browser (do not make it the default) to
test if it is a browser or network problem. It may get
you out of hot water temporarily. Check IE setup to see
if it is locked into a Proxy server that does not exist or
is unavailable.
